Lesson Three: Extreme Weather Events in Australia

external image Houses-after-tracy.jpg
In this lesson you will discover about the major weather events that have happened in recent Australian history. The five events are:
  1. Cyclone Tracy (1974)
  2. Millennium Drought (1997-2012)
  3. Perth Hail Storm (2010)
  4. Queensland Floods (2010-11)
  5. Black Saturday Bushfires (2009)

Your group will be given one of the above weather events to research and you will need to complete the following questions:
  • What were the weather conditions immediately before the event occurred?
  • How long was the timeframe of the event?
  • How much damage was caused by the weather event?
  • What were the implications on people after the event occurred?

Place your answers for the above questions by using a mind map on Spiderscribe.

As in the previous two lessons, your starting point will be from the 'ICT Weather' blog, under the title 'Lesson Three'. Please do not be restricted by the resources given in order to do your research. You will have 20 minutes to complete this task and then you will discuss your findings with the class.
